Season one / Episode 01
Cheryl Katon
Katie sits down with the bravest woman we know to discuss growing up trans, living authentically, and the cost of visibility.
About the episode
Trans joy. Visibility. Real lived experience.
What is the impact of visibility? What is the cost? Host Katie Martell sits down with Cheryl Katon, LGBTQ+ advocate, nonprofit CEO, Eagle Scout, and quite simply, the bravest woman we know.
Cheryl shares her experience growing up trans in Boston in the 70s and 80s before having the language for it, secretly searching library shelves, finding her community, navigating loss, marriage and transition, and eventually becoming a CEO in Texas.
We explore the power and complicated cost of visibility, queer history, trans joy, meaningful allyship, and Cheryl’s very simple “trans agenda”: helping people feel seen, heard, and able to become who they are.
Plus: Explain Like I’m Cis, an alarming amount of knot-tying expertise, and the world’s tiniest trophy.
